Choose the Android distribution. Phone APKs do not by themselves certify compatibility with Android TV or Fire TV.
Get started
Grant access only to the folders you want to play. File playback depends on its format and the device; preserve originals before converting them.
Keep your data when updating
Keep original media files and note important playlists or settings. Removing an app is not a backup strategy for your media library.

Distinguish a media-format or permission problem from an installation failure. Check the exact file and VideoLAN’s help before reinstalling.
Check the Android requirements and architecture shown above. Open the downloaded APK on your own Android device, read its notices and keep system protections enabled. Review any temporary browser installation permission afterward.
VLC FAQs
Does VLC include movies or streaming subscriptions?
No. This download installs the media player. It does not supply films, channel subscriptions or access rights to other services.
Can I use this on a television?
Consult the TV’s store and VideoLAN’s device guidance. This selection does not certify every TV or remote-control interface.
How do I choose the correct APK?
Check the minimum Android version and the architecture supported by the installed operating system. ARM64 means arm64-v8a; ARM32 means armeabi-v7a. A 64-bit chip does not prove that the installed system supports ARM64. Use the file picker, or the publisher’s store if available.
Can I update an installation from another source?
Check its package, edition and source first. A different signing key can prevent an update. Back up important data and consult the publisher before switching channels; do not uninstall or erase data as the first troubleshooting step.
