Get started
Review privacy and site settings and decide which data to retain. Check the provider’s explanation of each feature rather than assuming it covers every app.
Keep your data when updating
Preserve bookmarks and check the app’s available export or sync options before reinstalling. Verify what is backed up.
Use the original distribution channel where possible. Compare the package and edition before replacing an installation. A different signature or an older version can prevent an update; do not uninstall or clear data as the first troubleshooting step.
If installation or playback does not work
When a site fails, record the specific issue and consult DuckDuckGo’s guidance. Another APK does not guarantee that an external website will work.
Check the Android requirements and architecture shown above. Open the downloaded APK on your own Android device, read its notices and keep system protections enabled. Review any temporary browser installation permission afterward.
DuckDuckGo FAQs
Does this guarantee anonymous browsing?
No. Privacy controls have limits. Your accounts, network and the websites you use still affect what can be identified.
Is this a Windows installer?
No. The file is an Android APK. Use the publisher’s platform-specific downloads for other operating systems.
How do I choose the correct APK?
Check the minimum Android version and the architecture supported by the installed operating system. ARM64 means arm64-v8a; ARM32 means armeabi-v7a. A 64-bit chip does not prove that the installed system supports ARM64. Use the file picker, or the publisher’s store if available.
Can I update an installation from another source?
Check its package, edition and source first. A different signing key can prevent an update. Back up important data and consult the publisher before switching channels; do not uninstall or erase data as the first troubleshooting step.
